Helping You Move with Grief to Growth

Grief Disco is a disco event for people who have been impacted by grief. There are now Grief Discos happening across the UK, and we’re proud to have started the first one in Cardiff Wales in 2024.

We host Grief Discos - and we support others to host them too. Our mission is to show that grief and joy can exist side by side, and that no one should have to grieve alone.

What is Grief Disco?

When my son died, I found myself wanting to dance.

And somewhere in the pulse of dance music, I realised something -
grief and joy can live in the same moment.

That realisation became the seed of Grief Disco.

Together, Leah Sian Davies and I - the co-founders of Grief Disco - created something wonderful. Leah's gorgeous website is here.

A Grief Disco is a space to remember our people through music, movement, and meaning.

It’s where we can cry, dance, and laugh -sometimes all within the same song.

It’s not about “getting over” grief.

It’s about creating a space where
love is allowed to move, where stories can be shared, and where light finds its way back in.

Every Grief Disco is unique, but they all share one thing:
the courage to bring love and loss into the same room -and to remember that both belong.

Now, through this live online course, you can learn how to bring this healing movement to your own community.

Our Story

We love Grief Discos so much - the energy, the release, the light that comes when people realise that they can hold their grief and their joy in the same space.

Every time we see someone dance, cry, laugh, and remember their person in the same breath, it reminds us: this is healing.

But we can’t do it alone.

There are too many hearts that need this kind of space. Too many towns and communities where grief is hidden away, where people are aching to remember together - and to find joy again.

That’s why we’ve created the Grief Disco Training Course - a live 90-minute online training that teaches you how to bring this powerful work to life, wherever you are.

Would you like to run a Grief Disco?

We’d love to show you how.

Why People Choose to Run a Grief Disco

It changes the conversation about grief
You’ll help people see that grief isn’t something to hide - it’s something we can honour, move with, and even dance through.

It’s part of a growing movement
By running a Grief Disco, you join a collective of changemakers bringing compassion and creativity to communities everywhere.

It builds connection and belonging
Every event becomes a ripple - people leave feeling seen, lighter, and more human.

“Hosting a Grief Disco changed everything for me. Seeing people laugh, cry, and dance in one space -it reminded me that joy and sorrow belong together.”

A Story From One of our Hosts

“After my husband died, I was really missing dancing.
We’d danced together for 42 years -in the streets of different countries, and even on a train once! Just moving to music was so important to us.

For about 10 years we’d enjoyed Modern Jive, and after John died I tried going back, but couldn’t cope with partner dancing in that setting. It felt as if that ship had sailed.

Eventually, when the absolute rawness of my grief calmed a little, I began playing music again throughout the house - very loudly! Then I found myself dancing, and with that energy, my mood shifted. I felt joyous, even if it was short-lived.

I began wondering what it might look like to share that joy of dancing again. Should I have a party? What could I do to fulfil this need?

I’m a great believer in synchronicity -that when we put something out into the universe, even in thought form, magical things can happen.

One Saturday morning, I had Radio 4 playing as I got ready to go out. And there it was -the magic! George and Leah talking about their Grief Disco. I got so excited I thought I would pop. I could do this!

‘Good Grief Dancing’ in Hexham, Northumberland, ran its first event in mid-August. We have two more events lined up in November and January.

I enlisted the support of three close friends - my ‘Grief Angels’. Everyone I’ve shared the idea with has thought it’s a lovely concept, even if it’s not right for them personally.

As with everything new, it felt scary but absolutely right. The feedback from our pilot event was emotional, heartwarming, and deeply touching. It felt such a privilege to facilitate something that moved people - even when they didn’t have the words to express it.

Our GGD is smaller in scale than Grief Disco. I don’t run it as a business venture, but as something special for our local community. Who knows where it will go or how it will evolve.

I absolutely love this concept that George and Leah have brought into the world. It’s so inspiring - to allow something positive to grow from the saddest of experiences.

If this could spread, it would be magical. It doesn’t have to follow an exact template -what I’ve created fits my energy, my (older) demographic, and my community.

If they can, I can. And you can too.”
